Flensted HCA Cut Janus Mobile
This cutout is made for Baronesse Rigmor Stampe ( 1850-1923) As a little girl she got it from her godfather H.C. Andersen. The cut-out showed a man with 3 heads: one looked to the left side, another to the right side and the last straight out.
About H.C. Andersens paper cut-out Rigmor Stampe writes in her book called: “ Hans Christian Andersen and his nearest friends” “While H.C. Andersen was talking to the children – he folded a piece of paper and let the pair of scissors run in and out in waves between his fingers – they did not look like other cut-outs – but they often resembled each other. Here, as in his poetry, he had a certain repeated row of motives – that were always repeated: castles, swans, pixies, angels, amorines and other fantasy figures.

Mobiles are a traditional craft in Denmark, but the modern mobile - as a decoration for the home - was created in 1953 by Christian Flensted and his wife Grethe to celebrate the birth of their first daughter. Their first design, the stork mobile, was a great success, and now flies all over the world. Christian Flensted became known as the "Uromager", a name impossible to translate into English, which means a "maker of mischievous things that are always on the move". Flensted Mobiles are designed that the elements are in constant motion while the entire mobile maintains a harmonic balance.
This item qualifies for free door-to-door delivery within Canada, with a few exceptions:
- Orders $150 or less are charged a $35 small order fee at checkout.
- Additional charges apply for Remote Delivery Areas including the Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and other remote locations outside of major city centres.
- Small items will be delivered by FedEx or other courier service in your area.
- Large items will be delivered by freight service. This is standard curbside delivery; meaning the driver will not haul up an incline or up stairs, and it will be your responsibility to bring the item inside, complete any assembly, and remove packaging debris.
